Canadian Pacific is investing $36 million (C) to enlarge and improve three key intermodal facilities in Toronto, Calgary and Chicago.

The railroad plans to spend $26 million (C) at its Vaughan Intermodal Facility in Greater Toronto to bring capacity up to 350,000 container handlings per year. The expansion includes an empty marine container depot and a wheeled parking area; a reconfigured terminal layout to accommodate longer trains; a new, 5,000-foot track for loading and unloading containers; and extension of two existing tracks to 5,000 feet.

CPR will spend $8 million (C) to expand its Calgary intermodal facility from 105,000 to 150,000 handlings annually. The railroad will also invest $1.6 million (C) in improvements at its Bensenville Yard in the Chicago area.

In addition, CPR is carrying out $25.5 million (C) worth of track replacement, $6.5 million (C) in bridge and building replacement and $1.14 million (C) in grade-crossing renewal on its mainline in the upper Midwest.
