UP opens $20-million auto ramp in southern Illinois - Industry today - Union Pacific opens auto ramp for DaimlerChrysler and Mazda - Brief Article

Railway Track and Structures, August, 2001

In late July, Union Pacific officially opened a 95-acre, $20-million auto ramp in Centreville, Ill., to serve DaimlerChrysler and Mazda dealerships in the St. Louis area. Four 2,400-foot tracks are designed to accommodate up to 80 railcars at a time. The facility also features a staging area for about 5,000 vehicles and nine 3,000-foot tracks to stage up to 200 multilevel railcars for loading.

DaimlerChrysler plans to truck new autos from its Fenton, Mo., plant to the facility, about 10 miles southeast of St. Louis.

Also, DaimlerChrysler awarded UP its 2000 Gold Award in the Logistics Category for outstanding service performance and logistic excellence. This was the second year in a row that UP won the honor.
