WMATA proceeds with station projects - Industry today - Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority - Brief Article

Railway Track and Structures, August, 2001

Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority, or Metro, is on schedule to open a new entrance in 2003 at the Mt. Vernon Square/7th Street Convention Center Metro Station that will provide access to the new center, which is adjacent to the station. The expansion will allow for passage of large crowds. It is anticipated that 50 to 60 percent of those attending Convention Center events will use Metro.

In Phase One, the mezzanine at this entrance was extended 100 feet and structural supports for a new platform-to-mezzanine elevator, escalator and stairway were installed. Phase two involves demolition of part of the existing entrance as well as the removal of three existing escalators.

Also, the WMATA board designated Taylor Development and Land Company as the selected developer of the Prince George's Plaza Metro rail station site.
