AGL Resources Inc., an Atlanta-based regional holding company for energy and infrastructure-related businesses in the Southeast, has named Gene Rozgonyi vice president and chief risk officer. He will be responsible for measuring and monitoring risk throughout AGL Resources and its subsidiaries, including financial risk, weather risk, and risk related to the company's trading and asset optimization activities. He will also oversee the company's risk management committee and will develop and recommend risk management policies and procedures. Rozgonyi has more than 15 years of experience in financial risk management and trading business activities. Most recently he was with New Century Energies as the director of risk management.

William S. Smith has been appointed director-corporate risk management for United States Steel Corp., Pittsburgh, a newly formed entity resulting from the reorganization of the USX Corp., a major worldwide producer of oil and natural gas, and the nation's largest producer of steel products. Smith had held the same title for USX since 1996. Before that, he was manager of risk management for energy. Smith first joined USX with its Marathon Oil Co. subsidiary in 1968. He has also held positions in petroleum economics, production international, and financial planning and insurance.
Bay View Capital Corp., a commercial bank holding company headquartered in San Mateo, Calif., has appointed Weldon Culley vice president, general auditor and risk management officer for both Bay View Capital Corp. and Bay View Bank. He will be responsible for all internal audit procedures and the bank's risk management functions. Culley has nearly 30 years of experience in the commercial banking and bank regulatory fields. He most recently worked for BancFirst, where he was vice president of asset quality.
Ray J. Groves, a senior advisor and board member of Marsh & McLennan Cos. Inc., New York, will become president and chief operating officer of Marsh Inc., in a move to allow Marsh chairman and CEO John T. Sinnott the ability to concentrate on the conduct of Marsh's business with markets and clients in the wake of the September 11 terrorist attacks. Marsh executives who were reporting to Sinnott will now report to Groves, who became a Marsh board member in 1994 after retiring from Ernst & Young, where he was chairman and CEO for 17 years.
Kenneth J. LeStrange has been named chairman and CEO of Combined Specialty Corp., the underwriting operations arm of the Aon Corp., headquartered in Chicago. He currently holds the position of head of retail brokerage operations for the Americas. Before joining Aon, LeStrange worked for American Re Insurance Co. for 12 years, most recently as executive vice president responsible for underwriting, alternative risk transfer, and strategic planning.
Adam M. Hodes has joined CNA Insurance, Chicago, in the newly created position of executive vice president of corporate strategic planning. He is responsible for coordinating and refining enterprise strategy, risk assessment, and capital deployment. Hodes, who has 12 years of experience in advising financial institutions, previously was director of investment banking, Financial Institutions Group, for Credit Suisse First Boston Corp. and Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette Securities Corp.
The Custom Risk Division of Royal & Sun Alliance USA, Charlotte, N.C., has appointed Margaret O'Brien Johnson as risk management and global national operations executive. In addition, Douglas B. Brown was appointed risk management and global national business development executive. Johnson is responsible for the division's casualty insurance support, including strategy, product development, underwriting practices and training. Johnson has 20 years of experience in the large account and risk management arena. She was previously managing executive, risk management, with Kemper Insurance Co.
Brown is responsible for expanding the division's share of the risk management market. He has 23 years of experience and was most recently president of Aon Risk Services of Southern California.
