Joseph Mangan

Risk & Insurance, March, 2005

Longtime Risk & Insurance[R] columnist Joseph F. Mangan, CPCU, died late last year after a long illness.

Joe, an insurance executive, editor, educator and insurance journalist wrote a column on property risks. In this edition, on page 16, we reprint his column from July, 2000.

Joe was a prolific writer. He was the author of four textbooks on underwriting and he developed computer-based training modules for insurance topics for distance learning.

In his career, besides Risk & Insurance[R], he was managing editor of National Underwriter and wrote for the Insurance Journal and nest's underwriting newsletter. In addition, he was the managing editor of the publication Insurance Advocate.

His longtime love, according to his wife Elizabeth, was his membership in the local rescue squad where he became certified as an Emergency Medical Technician.

Joe also taught at the College of Insurance in New York.
