Research is critical to the AGSM's accomplishing its mission of advancing management knowledge and practice. We stand apart from other Australian business schools in terms of the quality and quantity of our research. Results of that research inform our teaching well before they are available to the wider world. The AGSM houses five centres for research.
Distinguished Academics
AGSM courses are designed and taught by recognised experts in their fields. In the School's 25 years, academics at AGSM have written 36 books, 48 book chapters, over 500 journal articles and over 160 conference papers. Since 1976, the AGSM has published The Australian Journal of Management.
Dean & Director of AGSM
Professor Michael Vitale, Dean and Director AGSM BA Oakland, MBA Harvard, PhD Dartmouth
Professor Vitale was formerly a Professor in the Centre for Management of IT at the Melbourne Business School, and the Foundation Professor of Information Systems and Head of the Information Systems Department at the University of Melbourne. Prior to coming to Australia, he was a Fellow at the Ernst & Young Center for Business Innovation in Boston, USA. Dr Vitale was also an Associate Professor of Business Administration at Harvard Business School, where he wrote more than 50 case studies on the use of information technology in organisations. His industry experience includes four years as Vice President of Technology and Corporate Services at the Prudential Insurance Company of America.
Brisbane Graduate School of Business
QUT's Brisbane Graduate School of Business (BGSB) offers Australia's innovative MBA and is committed to providing courses that reflect global best practice in graduate management education. The BGSB is one of six schools in QUT's Faculty of Business. It has over 1200 students studying a range of programs, including our highly regarded Master of Business Administration program, and a number of Graduate Diplomas and Graduate Certificates. A Master of Entrepreneurship & Innovation will be available from 2003. The Brisbane Graduate School of Business is located in state-of-the-art facilities at QUT's Gardens Point campus, right in the heart of Brisbane's city centre and adjacent to the Botanic Gardens.
Our programs offer many features including:
* Completion within 12 months full-time;
* 6 entry points during the year, usually in January, March, May, July, September, and November;
* Half-semester (7-week) units to allow broad coverage of core business issues (16 areas) including topics like Leadership, Entrepreneurship, and Electronic Commerce;
* Wide choice of elective units to allow rumors and concentrations in 16 subject areas;
* Expertise in Entrepreneurship, including the hosting of the Australian MOOT CORP business plan competition;
* Highly-qualified instructors with international teaching and business experience, including business practitioners and visiting professors;
* Our sub-tropical climate with a dry season in the winter means warm winter days.
