Clough beats the turmoil

Business Asia, August 17, 1998

Financial turmoil in Asia appears to have had little effect on regional business for Clough Engineering.

The company's Indonesian subsidiary, Petrosea, is developing an open-pit gold mine at Rawas in South Sumatra, Indonesia, for PT Barisan Tropical Mining.

Petrosea won the US$29 million contract in 1996 to mine 13 million cubic metres of ore and waste material. The company will drill and blast about 70 per cent of the project's total excavation material.

Work on the mine is expected to be completed by November, 2000.

A second project in Indonesia undertaken by Petrosea involves the design and construction of new inlet booster compression facilities at the Pagerungan Island Gas Field, north of Bali.

The company was awarded the US$25 million contract by Atlantic Richfield (ARCO) Bali North Inc in July, 1997, and will design the facilities' plants and structures in its Perth head office.
