Dhl Expands Across Asia - DHL Airways Inc - Brief Article

Business Asia, Nov, 2000

DHL WORLDWIDE Express, the world's largest international air express network, is rapidly expanding its operations throughout Asia and is now offering overnight delivery to major business centres across the region.

At the heart of the $300 million expansion is the new Hong Kong-based Asia hub, with the recently opened facility at Melbourne Airport providing another vital link in the network.

The new hubs have allowed DHL to fully roll-out its market-leading Asia Overnight service.

"These initiatives and our capacity to manage large volumes of freight have helped streamline our services and cut transit times to key Asian cities by up to 40 per cent," says John Pearson, DHL's area director Oceania.

"The Asia Pacific region is the world's fastest growing air express market, and DHL has established the right distribution network, airport infrastructure and technology to move goods faster and more reliably than through existing forwarding methods."

Under the Asia Overnight service, shipments from the CBD areas of Melbourne and Sydney can be collected as late as 6pm for guaranteed nextday delivery in Singapore, Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur, Jakarta and Bangkok.
