Thousands of votes have so far been received from the Asia-Pacific region.

The awards, first held last year, were introduced by Business Asia to recognise the importance of hotels to the business sector.

Business Asia and Bloomberg Television have joined forces to present this year's awards.

A new category has been introduced this year: the Best New Business Hotel in Asia, which will herald the best hotel in Asia under two years old. Finalists in that category are previewed in this edition:

Mandarin Oriental Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

One of the newest additions to the Kuala Lumpur skyline, the Mandarin Oriental enjoys an enviable location next to the world's tallest buildings, the Petronas Twin Towers. It's also close to the Dewan Filharmonik Petronas Concert Hall, Kuala Lumpur's premier shopping mall and a lush 50-acre city park.

The hotel has 643 guest rooms, all of which cater for the corporate traveller. Fax and modem ports are standard.

The Mandarin Oriental Club, exclusively designed for the discerning business traveller, has 148 elegantly appointed rooms and 11 suites.

Each club room guest has access to the club lounge and receives complimentary breakfast, morning tea and evening cocktails.

Club guests can also use the business centre, meeting rooms and a billiard room.

The Pudong Shangri-La Shanghai, China

The Pudong Shangri-La, Shanghai, opened last year and was the first luxury hotel in Pudong, Shanghai's dynamic business centre.

The 612-room property, which stands along the famous Huangpu River, features spacious accommodation. Each room has a minimum of 39sqm.

All rooms have satellite channel television, an executive work desk, IDD telephones, an electronic safe and keycard, plus data ports for faxes and computers.

The meeting and banquet space boasts the largest pillarless ballroom in Shanghai and can seat up to 1250 people.

Eleven other function rooms of various sizes can accommodate meetings.

Sheraton Imperial Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Located in the heart of the Golden triangle district, the commercial and business hub of Kuala Lumpur, the Sheraton Imperial is the latest addition to Sheraton's "Luxury Collection" of world-wide hotels.

The spacious hotel has 398 rooms, all of which have access to a 24-hour butler service.

Features of the rooms include a two-line IDD phone, private safe, in-room fax with personalised numbers, personal computer outlets and original art

Suite guests also receive complimentary gifts, breakfast, cocktails and personalised butler service.

The 24-hour business centre is located on the lobby level. It can provide secretarial work, word processing, translation, as well as private offices and a conference room.

Other amenities include a library on the 38th floor and a retail complex incorporated as part of the hotel building.

Grand Hyatt Shanghai, China

The 555-room Grand Hyatt Shanghai, located in the centre of Lujiazui, is Hyatt International's flagship property in China,

The hotel occupies the top 35 floors of the 88-storey Jin Mao Tower, the tallest building in China, and provides guests with unparalleled views of surrounding Shanghai.

All the hotel's rooms have an interactive television, Internet access with on-line financial information, high-speed modem computer data ports and a voicemail message system.

The Hyatt's business centre provides office services, conference rooms, video conference facilities and an information library.

The Peninsula Bangkok Thailand

Set on a commanding position on the west bank of the Chaophraya River, The Peninsula Bangkok brings together guest-friendly technology with high service standards.

Over-sized executive desks have been installed in all guestrooms and feature dual-voltage plugs for computers and modems.

Other corporate facilities include a state-of-the-art business centre, a boardroom to seat 120 people, four smaller meeting rooms and a ballroom which can accommodate 400 guests for a banquet.

The Regent Mumbai, India

The Regent's 508-room property, located in India's financial capital, is the second new Regent hotel to open under the leadership of Carlson Hospitality Worldwide (USA) since its acquisition of Regent in November, 1997.

Panoramic views over the Arabian Sea are enjoyed from all the luxuriously appointed guest rooms and suites. A notable feature of The Regent Mumbai is the butler facility, available for every room, with butlers on hand to provide a highly personalised service to guests 24 hours a day.
