New agreement for Patrick's - Ports & Shipping - Patrick, Australian stevedoring company - Brief Article

Business Asia, Feb, 2002

PATRICK THE Australian Stevedore's Hamilton facilities at the Port of Brisbane will be relocated to Fisherman Island.

In a variation of a Heads of Agreement signed between Patrick's and the Port of Brisbane Corporation in October last year, the agreement, while still catering for the relocation of the company's facilities from Hamilton, will see the withdrawal of Patrick's Fisherman Islands container operations from Berths 1, 2 and 3 to be relocated downstream of Berth 7. This still requires the fast tracking of Berth 9.

Outgoing Port of Brisbane chief executive officer Graham Mulligan said the commitment by Patrick is further proof of the acceptance of the Australia TradeCoast precinct by corporate Australia.

"This new agreement will ensure that the car industry will be provided with the flexibility and cost efficiencies require to guarantee its continued growth through Brisbane," he said. "It will also allow the port to ensure that the container handling terminals are located in the same precinct, thus eliminating unnecessary costs when growth rates demand expansion."

Mulligan announced his resignation from the Port of Brisbane late last year.
