Keep an eye on - Stop Press - General Motors Corp., Suzuki Motor Company Ltd.; new vehicle - Brief Article

Business Asia, March, 2002

General Motor's first new vehicle built in Japan in 70 years is proving to be a flop. Even dealerships in busy locations are only showcasing the sporty compact in stints since it went on sale in November. The first fruit of the General Motors-Suzuki alliance is missing sales targets because a recession is prompting consumers to favour models that are a fifth cheaper.

Analysts say General Motors needs to have greater control and more hands-on management of its Asian partners to make sure its car sells.
