Business Asia Magazine, in the lead-up to the Best Business Hotels in Asia Awards' gala ceremony to be held on 3 September, will profile all of the finalists for 2002. SINGAPORE
Conrad Centennial
Adjacent to the convention and exhibition centre Suntec Singapore, the Conrad Centennial is located within easy reach of downtown Singapore. The 31 storeys include 484 rooms and 25 suites. These are fitted with luxury facilities, supported by a range of services from express pressing to a complimentary fruit plate replenished daily. The business traveller is well catered for by a fully equipped business centre, and a variety of meeting and banquet rooms for conferences and functions.
Four Seasons Hotel Singapore
The Four Seasons Hotel Singapore displays more than 1500 original works of art, many of which feature in the 254 guest rooms and suites. Offering a variety of views from the city skyline to the Botanic Gardens, the rooms are big on luxury touches, such as 100 per cent cotton oversized bath towels, down pillows, and oversized double vanity marble bathrooms. In terms of business services, the hotel has a 24-hour business centre, secretarial services, translation, and high-speed internet access in meeting rooms.
The Fullerton Singapore
The Fullerton Singapore, at the forefront of Singapore's financial and business district, is a historic building featuring stunning architecture. This transcends into the interior, encompassing 400 guest rooms and suites. This includes The Straits Club--a private club offering personalised service and a range of extra privileges such as 24-hour food and beverages, and exclusive access to the lounge and roof garden. A business centre and a variety of function rooms are available, or business can take place in one of the five restaurants and bars.
Grand Hyatt Singapore
Located at the start of Orchard Road in the heart of the city's commercial and entertainment district, the Grand Hyatt Singapore offers generously spaced rooms and top class conference facilities. Options include a ballroom which holds up to 700, 20 meeting rooms and a boardroom--each of which has a range of business accessories. Alternatively, meetings can be held in one of four restaurants, a lobby lounge or two bars. A business centre is also available for support requirements.
Raffles Hotel
Raffles Hotel is a landmark building in Singapore, encompassing a shopping arcade, a museum, romantic courtyards and Victorian-style theatre Jubilee Hall. The hotel boasts 103 suites, including the Courtyard and Palm suites, which are closest to the lush gardens. These suites are decorated with period furnishing such as oriental carpets on teak, marble and tiled floors, and all have private parlours and dining areas. A number of rooms are available for functions--one of which is the ballroom, with high ceilings, arched openings and French doors.
The Ritz-Carlton Millenia Singapore
Located in Marina Bay, The Ritz-Carlton Millenia Singapore is a seven and a half acre oasis, its 608 guestrooms and suites feature large floor areas, walk-in wardrobes and marble bathrooms with a view. Function facilities are grand, particularly the ballroom, which features ornate gold leaf motifs and ribbed dome ceilings. The 10 conference and meeting rooms can accommodate six to 170 people. A variety of dining options are on offer, including Snappers, located poolside with hanging gardens and an indoor waterfall.
Shangri-La Hotel Singapore
In the heart of the city's business hub, the Shangri-La Hotel, Singapore, is a premier resort establishment. Upon entering, guests are met with walls of sheer glass, overlooking a 15-acre botanical garden and exotic swimming pool. Four collections of event venues are available, with space totalling over 60,000 square feet. The Grand, Mezzanine, Valley and Garden collections can accommodate events from 12 to 1500 people. To ease away the stress of doing business, a fitness centre offers facilities such as a fully equipped gym, steam and shower, jacuzzi, and relaxation areas.
TAIWAN
Far Eastern Plaza Hotel, Taipei
Soaring 43 storeys above the city's business district, the Far Eastern Plaza Hotel is minutes away from the Taipei World Trade Centre. The hotel's 422 guest rooms and suites offer great views over the city, and a range of dining facilities provide the ideal venue for informal business meetings. For more structured functions, 11 meeting and banquet rooms are available, including two ballrooms, one of which features a pair of waterfalls. Each venue is fully equipped with the latest audio-visual technology. When work is done, state-of-the-art fitness facilities can be used to unwind.
Grand Formosa Regent Taipei
The Grand Formosa Regent Taipei offers quick access to the city's main business, shopping, and entertainment districts. The hotel's 539 rooms include 60 suites, the largest of which is a corner suite, which includes a marble entrance foyer, large living room with dining table, and an en suite bathroom with a whirlpool bath. For business events, there are nine functions rooms and a ballroom, which can accommodate up to 1000 people.
