AUD up 21%—good news or bad news? - Sponsor's Message

Business Asia, Sept, 2003

Here's some food for thought. The AUD moved flora USD 0.5600 at the start of 2003 to recent highs of USD 0.6850 in early July--a 21% increase, if you were an exporter without an effective currency risk management strategy in place the rise could have been bad news for you--with a big impact on your bottom line.

Currency risk (like our example) is just one of the risks exporters face in their daily operations, Others might include credit risk or even political influences and government regulations at home and overseas.

Whilst some risks are difficult to control others can certainly be minimised through careful management.

The Commonwealth Bank has been assisting exporters to effectively manage currency risk for years, We take a collaborative approach with clients and work with them to come up with the best solutions for their particular situation. If that sounds like good news to you as an exporter and you'd like to know more please call Andrew Boyd on 02 931 20370 or email boydan@cba.com.au
