Top of their game - best business hotels in Asia
Business Asia, Sept, 2001
It was this expertise in both publishing and events which led Bloomberg Television to work with The Charlton Group to co-present the Best Business Hotels in Asia Awards from 1999 onwards. As a co-presenter, Bloomberg Television has played a significant role in the development of the Awards. Bloomberg Television media syndication director James Ross said Bloomberg decided to become involved with the Awards because it complemented Bloomberg's commitment to business people throughout the region.
"Bloomberg's audience is an audience which visits four and five star hotels in the region," he said. "We are highlighting those hotels and ensuring that we have coverage in these hotels."
The Best Business Hotels in Asia Awards have had an immense impact upon the hotel industry within Asia, and have gained strong support from Bloomberg's audience, Ross says.
Bloomberg Television has already gained a strong reputation in the Asia-Pacific region for its television news and information services. Primarily aimed at professionals and business people who need information on financial markets, Bloomberg News has 1500 reporters and editors based in 80 new bureaus worldwide, which contribute to 10 separate networks in seven languages. Bloomberg also maintains two 24-hour news services for the Asia Pacific region.
ABOUT THE 2001 AWARDS
THE BEST Business Hotels in Asia Awards are now in their fourth successful year, with the event the showcase awards for the business travel industry in the region.
Initiated by Business Asia magazine and jointly developed with leading financial news network Bloomberg Television, the Awards were established to recognise excellence in the industry, particularly within the crucial business sector.
This year's Awards were officially launched on February 15 at the JW Marriott Hotel, Hong Kong. The judging panel then convened in April and selected a shortlist of over 80 hotel finalists in 17 different countries and categories.
The judges for this year were PMP Ltd chairman Ken Cowley, Horworth Asia Pacific MD Robert Hecker, Bloomberg Television's media syndication director James Ross, and First Charlton Communications chairman and Business Asia publisher Peter Charlton.
Votes were then sought from Business Asia readers and Bloomberg Television viewers. Votes could have been lodged via coupons available in Business Asia magazine or on-line at www.charlton.com.au/bestasiahotel.
