2004 AEC caddies image awards: congratulations to this year's AEC Caddies Image Award winners. As usual, competition was fierce and judges had a tough time choosing the winners

CADalyst, May, 2004 by Laracella Sheridan

We received more than 100 entries this year, and the design work continues to improve. Judge Richard Buday says it well: "I'm very impressed with the overall technical quality and artistic diversity of images. Many professional illustrators seem to be reaching toward artistic interpretations of building exteriors. The best interior renderings, on the other hand, have the science of photorealism down to art." A big thank you to our judges, who spent valuable time poring over the images: Richard Buday, Bill Burchard, Michael Dakan, H. Edward Goldberg, and Mark Middlebrook. Watch next month for the Mechanical winners.

PROFESSIONAL EXTERIOR 1ST PLACE

Young Rhee designed the striking Dubai Fisheye using Autodesk VIZ 4, Bentley MicroStation, and V-Ray on a Pentium 4 with dual 2.4GHz processors.

PROFESSIONAL INTERIOR 1ST PLACE

Ready for a trip to the mountains? Randall Beardsley's Just Add Your Favorite Recipe looks like the place to stay. He created this design to "explore making textures for use in AutoCAD and for the fun of it." He used AutoCAD 2000 and Adobe Photoshop 4 on an IBM IntelliStation Z Pro with a 2.8GHz Xeon processor, 2GB RAM, and a 3DLabs Wildcat 4 7110 graphics card.

FULL-TIME FACULTY/ GRADUATE STUDENT 1ST PLACE

Hector Camps, a student at New Jersey Institute of Technology, completed this design of Uffizi Gallery for his graduate studio course, mainly using discreet's 3ds max.

UNDERGRADUATE 1ST PLACE

Tom Senger designed the Venetian Glassworks building as part of his undergraduate studies at New Jersey School of Architecture. He used discreet's 3ds max 5 and Lightscape. n
