Hybrid Networks' patents, intellectual property to be auctioned online

Communications Today, May 30, 2002

Online auction marketplace Bid4Assets is preparing to auction patents and intellectual property of Hybrid Networks, formerly in the broadband business. The sealed bid auction will be held through Friday on Bid4Assets' Web site, http://www.bid4assets.com.

San Jose, Calif.-based Hybrid provided fixed broadband wireless technology for MMDS and similar licensed frequencies before closing down in March. The auction includes more than 15 proprietary U.S. patents, three U.S. patent applications and five foreign patent applications. Copies of the patents and other due diligence information is available online at the Bid4Assets web site.

Hybrid, which warned in February that it might face bankruptcy, was heavily dependent on sales to two carriers, Sprint [FON] and WorldCom [WCOM]. As those two carriers and others rolled back their fixed wireless broadband deployments, Hybrid's revenue base shrank dramatically
