JDS, Cisco Cut By Analysts

Communications Today, May 30, 2002

Credit Suisse First Boston [CSR] cut its rating for JDS Uniphase [JDSU] stock to buy from strong buy, as recent data points from Ciena's [CIEN] earnings call and CSFB's communications conference point to continued weak carrier spending.

When compounded with liquidity concerns at carriers such as Qwest Communications International [Q], WorldCom [WCOM], Broadwing [BRW], CSFB believes news from the group at the Supercomm telecom trade show in Atlanta next week is likely to be negative.

Cisco Systems [CSCO] was cut sell from hold by Dresdner Kleinwort Wasserstein. While Cisco's 10-Q filing provided little new info, the company still has accounting and disclosure issues, said DKW, which has been bearish on Cisco for some time, having rated the stock either reduce, sell or hold for almost a year.
