United Online Rolls Out Broadband In Nashville, Indianapolis

Communications Today, June 3, 2002

United Online [UNTD], the ISP formed by the 2001 merger of free Internet access providers NetZero and Juno, has moved into the broadband market. United Online launched its Juno Broadband cable-based service in the Nashville and Indianapolis markets. The Juno service runs over Comcast's [CMCSA] cable networks in both cities, and rollouts are planned in other Comcast markets.

Juno Broadband offers two plans, the $39.95 a month Basic package and the $44.90 Platinum package. Both offer speeds up to 1.5 Mbps down and 128 kbps up. The distinction of United Online's offering, and the difference between its two plans, is the inclusion of separate dial-up access to their accounts for when customers are away from their home PCs. The basic package includes 10 hours of Juno's free dial-up service. The Platinum service includes the company's Platinum dial-up service, which dispenses with the ads that support the free service. The Platinum dial-up service itself retails at $9.95 a month.
