Lucent Wins First LambdaUnite Customer

Edison Carrier Solutions, a regional "carrier's carrier" based in Southern California, will be the first U.S. service provider to commercially deploy the LambdaUnite MultiService Switch (MSS), a next-generation optical system from Lucent Technologies [LU].

The Lucent product, which also includes the Metropolis DMX Access Multiplexer platform as well as software and services, will allow Edison Carrier Solutions, which serves the wholesale telecommunications market, to provide services on a common backbone. That change will increase capacity while helping to reduce equipment and power costs as well as space requirements in a crowded central office environment.
