Redline Sells Fixed Wireless Broadband Gear in Hawaii
Communications Today, June 4, 2002
Redline Communications Inc. has sold its newly released AN-50 fixed wireless platform to Hawaiian carrier Maika'i Systems. The AN-50 is a non-line-of-sight fixed wireless platform that Maika'i will use for backhauling of voice, video and data traffic.
The company said it tested Redline's platform under the worst conditions it could find: linking a technical education center in a "bowl" to the roof of a residential building 1.5 miles away behind a highway, trees, high power lines and other buildings. They succeeded in establishing a stable link at 36 Mbps and transferring full motion video. Maika'i, like other Hawaiian providers, will need to rely heavily on non-line-of-sight hardware for wireless coverage in the rolling contours of Hawaii's volcanic islands.
