Cobra Signs Exclusive Deal With Rand McNally for Handheld GPS Products

Communications Today, June 4, 2002

Cobra Electronics Corp. [COBR], a global manufacturer of mobile communication products, will use its new stand-alone handheld Global Positioning System (GPS) products in conjunction with Rand McNally base map data and a custom edition of StreetFinder Deluxe Travel Navigation Software.

Cobra's new products are the only stand-alone handheld Global Positioning System (GPS) receivers to feature base map data and custom StreetFinder Deluxe software from Rand McNally, a global provider of mapping, routing and travel information. Cobra was attracted to Rand McNally as its GPS software partner because of the company's quality reputation and consumer-focused mapping capabilities, Cobra officials said.

Two of Cobra's hand-held receivers, the GPS 500 and the GPS 1000, feature embedded Rand McNally base map data for U.S., Canadian province and European country boundaries as well as worldwide city locations. Cobra's GPS 1000 will also incorporate major U.S. highway data provided by Rand McNally, Cobra officials said.
