The Dow Jones U.S. Telecommunications Index finished up on Wednesday, closing at 123.14, a 0.40 percent increase since Tuesday.

The Dow and Nasdaq both finished in the red Wednesday after Intel's [Nasdaq: INTC] latest earnings results sparked concern about the chip industry even as the company beat earnings forecasts.

In the telecom sector, AT&T [T] increased 19 cents to finish at $27.46 while SBC Communications [SBC] dropped $1.07 to close at $28.54.

On the wireless side, Rogers Wireless Communications [RCN] gained 19 cents to close at $11.39 while Nokia [NOK] dropped 9 cents to finish at $16.47.

In the satellite sector, Lockheed Martin Corp. [LMT] lost $1.20 to finish at $53.80 while Harris Corp. [HRS] gained $2.19 to close at $31.13.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average decreased 119.44 points, or 1.35 percent, to 8,723.18. The Nasdaq decreased 22.19 points, or 1.52 percent, to finish at 1,438.80.
