Communications Today, June 12, 2002

Miami-based Globecast, a satellite transmission service provider, is offering project management, uplink, digital turnaround, encryption and space segment for the coverage of the 2002 FIFA World Cup soccer tournament by Mexican broadcaster, TV Azteca.

Robert Behar, GlobeCast America's president and CEO, said the France Telecom [FTE] subsidiary is providing satellite transmission and production services to TV Azteca from the International Broadcast Center in South Korea. TV Azteca is using a rooftop uplink and a full-time 15-megabit channel on Intelsat 701 for backhaul to America. GlobeCast's international teleport in Los Angeles is managing signal turnaround to Mexico on Telstar 5.

In addition, GlobeCast is providing an 8-megabit return channel from Los Angeles to the broadcast center for network monitoring of the feed. GlobeCast's project management team is supplying all transmission equipment as well as necessary licenses and permits in Korea.
