Aperto Deploys For Sacramento Schools
Communications Today, June 25, 2002
Aperto Networks deployed its PacketWave wireless broadband access system for the five-site educational network operated by Center Unified School District in Sacramento County, Calif. The school district uses Aperto's base station and subscriber units in 5 GHz frequency spectrum to self-provision up to 8 Mbps data access per site for more than 3,000 students in 267 classrooms.
Center Unified had been planning for more than a year to upgrade from operating a 2.4 GHz wireless local-area network extension to high-speed Internet access and LAN interconnection using 5.8 GHz. The district wanted to be able to do client-sharing from a single site with a multi-sector base station while also being able to add users and locations inexpensively and increase the network's overall speed and responsiveness.
