Communications Today, July 9, 2002
In a shift of market share rankings, Cisco Systems [CSCO] surpassed Siemens [SI], Alcatel [ALA], Nortel Networks [NT] and Ericsson [ERICY] to rise to first in total communications equipment sales in the first quarter of 2002, according to Synergy Research Group (SRG).
Cisco's ability to stabilize sales, driven by its strength in the enterprise, enabled it to capture the top spot in this market for the first time, SRG said. Market share gains were also measured for Lucent [LU] and Nortel.
In the second half of 2001, the European telecom manufacturers were feeling less of the telecom spending downturn, benefiting such players as Alcatel, Ericsson and Siemens in worldwide market shares. For more in-depth industry analysis, visit http://www.telecomweb.com/fiberoptics/snapshot/.
