Russian Defense Ministry Launches Two Satellites

Communications Today, July 9, 2002

The Russian Defense Ministry launched two Kosmos military satellites on Monday from its Plesetsk launching pad aboard a Kosmos-3M rocket at 10:36 Moscow time, the Russian Space Forces announced.

The satellites reached orbit at 12:40 Moscow time and the Russian Space Forces took control of them. Telemetric communication with them was established and is being maintained, the space agency said.

This was the fourth military satellite launched by Russia from Plesetsk, which the Russian government plans to make its main launch site once it cancels its lease on the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan.
