The Dow Jones U.S. Telecommunications Index finished down on Monday, closing at 114.99, a 3.24 percent increase since Friday.

Stocks finished in the red Monday, beaten down by a weakening dollar, accounting concerns and lukewarm earnings results.

In the telecom sector, BTGroup plc [BTY] rose $1.92 to close at $39.62 while BellSouth Corp. [BLS] increased $1.42 to close at $32.

On the wireless side, Nokia [NOK] dropped 4.23 percent to finish at $14.50 while Motorola [MOT] declined 3.17 percent to finish at $14.67.

In the satellite sector, EchoStar Communications [DISH] dropped 79 cents to close at $17.37 while PanAmSat Corp. [SPOT] decreased 86 cents to close $22.16.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average finished down 104.60 points, or 1.12 percent, to 9,274.90. The Nasdaq decreased 42.75 points, or 2.95 percent, to finish at 1,405.61.
