Laos To Revive Satellite Communications Project
Communications Today, July 12, 2002
The Laos government will revive an ambitious plan to launch two communications satellites, according to Thai newspaper reports.
Laos is scheduled by the end of July to sign a memorandum of understanding with a group of foreign investors from Asia and North America to re-launch the long-delayed satellite project. The project first began in 1995 when Laos signed an agreement with Thai consortium Asian Broadcasting and Communications Network to launch two satellites. But the consortium ran out of funds after the 1997 Asian financial crisis.
Lao officials hope to launch the two satellites, L-Star I and L-Star II, within two years.
