India Faces Stiff Competition In Launch Market
Communications Today, July 22, 2002
Stiff competition from Russia and China and "market factors" have been cited as responsible for Indian Space Research Organization's (ISRO) failure to secure new satellite launch contracts, according to India's PTI News Agency.
ISRO is banking on its time-tested workhorse, the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV), which has the ability to launch small satellites, to get a share of the lucrative satellite launch market. The Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle, which also can launch heavier satellites, must still undergo a few more flights before its launchability is proven, the agency said.
