Quanta Adds E-OTD To GSM Phones
Communications Today, July 23, 2002
Taiwanese handset manufacturer Quanta has integrated enhanced observed time difference (E-OTD) location software in a GSM phone in collaboration with Cambridge Positioning Systems and TTPCom.
TTPCom integrated Cambridge Positioning's E-OTD algorithm software into its existing GSM/GPRS protocol stack software, which has been licensed by Quanta. This software upgrade made it possible for Quanta to add E-OTD functionality to its handsets with a rapid time-to-market plan.
Quanta's integration of E-OTD also followed extensive trials at Cambridge Positioning's testing and integration laboratory in Cambridge, England, the first E-OTD software integration facility for mobile devices. The facility enables GSM device manufacturers to test the performance of Cambridge Positioning's software within their products before being released to manufacturing for commercial rollout.
