Sprint To Build, Manage Network For Legendary Auction House

Communications Today, July 23, 2002

Exploiting its broadband capabilities, Sprint [FON] has inked a multiyear communications services deal with venerable auction house Phillips de Pury & Luxembourg. The agreement calls for delivery of communications technologies including management of a custom-designed auction application aimed at helping the 200-year-old auction house move merchandise more effectively.

The New York-based auction house, which specializes in high-end works of art, will use its customized auction application to bring together buyers and sellers and account for every client's unique tastes. The agreement calls for Sprint to build and manage the entire information technology infrastructure and provide Internet protocol (IP), virtual private network (VPN) and wide area network services.

As part of the contract, Sprint also is to integrate Phillips' European and North American operations into one global seamless virtual network that gives the auction house the ability to globally manage multimillion dollar transactions by simply plugging in a laptop. In addition, Sprint will provide managed hosting, security management, domestic and international IP VPN, voice VPN and wireless services.
