EMS Technologies Installs High-Speed Data Terminal

Communications Today, July 23, 2002

Atlanta-based EMS Technologies' single channel HSD-64 high-speed data satellite communication terminal has been selected by Computer Associates for its Gulfstream G-IV aircraft.

The HSD-64 provides the cabin with a single Swift64 high-speed data connection, along with the capability to make low-cost voice calls. The system is configured to work with an existing Aero-H satellite communication antenna, while preserving the current Aero-H capability to make voice calls.

Installed by Duncan Aviation at its facility in Teterboro, N.J., the HSD-64, a single-channel 64Kbps aeronautical data terminal offers a simple upgrade to existing Aero-H/H SATCOM installations and uses the Inmarsat Swift64 Mobile ISDN service to provide global high-speed data capability, company officials said. The system enables e-mail and Internet connectivity onboard aircraft, and can support 64Kbps voice channels or a single Aero mini-M voice channel.
