Air Force One Gets Satellite Data Link
Communications Today, August 9, 2000
One of the Air Force One aircraft used by the president has been equipped with Annapolis, Md-based Arinc's GlobaLink Satellite Aero-H data link, according to the aeronautical-communications company. It is also equipping the plane with its VHF data link as part of a major upgrade of the aircraft.
The new data links will be used for air traffic control and aeronautical operational control data link messages, Airinc said.
Two planes are referred to as Air Force One. The term refers to whichever plane the president is flying in. The other Air Force One will be outfitted with the Satellite Aero-H and VHF data links next year, Airinc said.
