Circle The Wagons…

Communications Today, Sept 27, 1999

Comsat Corp. [CQ] has scheduled a public meeting for tomorrow, largely on the FCC's plan to end Comsat's monopoly on Intelsat services in the United States.

Comsat executives and shareholders are waiting for final U.S. government approval of a merger with aerospace and defense giant Lockheed Martin Corp. [LMT]. Lockheed Martin has been given the OK from the FCC and the Justice Dep-artment to buy 49 percent of Comsat, but needs Congress' permission to buy the rest.
