Nortel Reorganizes, Key Executive Leaves
Communications Today, Oct 4, 2002
Nortel Networks [NT] Thursday announced a restructuring of its operations, expanding three business units into four with the metro and enterprise unit essentially being split into separate entities. Many in the investment community view the move by Nortel as a means to grow its enterprise business. The company did not say why Frank Plastina, a 15-year company veteran, is leaving his job as president of the metro and enterprise networks unit. Nortel has come under increasing pressure from the investment community about its cash levels and what some analysts call an overly optimistic breakeven target date of June 2003.
