Riverstone Equipment Deployed In Japanese Metro Ethernet Network

Communications Today, Nov 4, 2002

Adding to a string of global deployments for Metro Ethernet network routers, Santa Clara, Calif.-based Riverstone Networks' [RSTN] equipment is being used in a new Metro Ethernet system being built by Japanese carrier Densan in Nagano prefecture. The Densan network combines basic Ethernet with Riverstone's multi-protocol label switching (MPLS) technology to provide customers with bandwidth on demand, virtual private networking and streaming media services. The Japanese deployment caps a strong month for Riverstone. Also in October, the company announced a deal with Spanish incumbent Telefonica de Espana to provide routers for Spain's largest broadband rollout to date, and with Mexico's MVS Communicaciones to help build the country's first nationwide wireless broadband network. Riverstone in October also lined up contracts with Panamanian startup Optynex Telecom, and with Hong Kong's PCCW-HKT Network Services.
