Globecomm Receives Initial Payment On DTH Project

Communications Today, Nov 5, 2002

Globecomm Systems [GCOM] received an initial payment of $500,000 to begin the engineering and planning stages of a multi-million dollar direct-to-home (DTH) satellite TV system contract with an unidentified customer. The proposed DTH system would enable digital subscribers to tune to a subscription based DTH system, which would include Internet, entertainment and local channels, plus pay-per-view programming. The proposed project would be implemented in twophases. The first would include the provision of a broadcast uplink from Globecomm's Long Island teleport and would support one transponder of North American video content and Internet to subscribers; and the second would include the implementation of a broadcast center. The first-phase contract has a value of up to $8.6 million, and the second phase has a value of up to $19.6 million.
