XM Plans To Become First Nationwide Radio Broadcaster Of Top College Football Bowl Games

In a radio and sports first, Washington-based XM Satellite Radio [XMSR] will broadcast live all the games from the 2002 College Football Bowl Championship Series (BCS) on ESPN Radio, XM's Channel 140.

The broadcasts will begin with the Fiesta Bowl on New Year's Day and culminate Jan. 3 with the Rose Bowl that will feature this year's college football national championship game.

"The college football bowl season is a great tradition in American sports," said Steve Gavenas, XM's senior vice president.

ESPN Radio's BCS coverage begins with The Tostitos Fiesta Bowl at 4:30 p.m. ET Jan. 1, pitting the Colorado Buffaloes against the Oregon Ducks from Tempe, Ariz. The Nokia Sugar Bowl follows immediately afterward at approximately 8:30 p.m. ET and features the Louisiana State Tigers versus the Illinois Fighting Illini from New Orleans.

On Jan. 2 at 7:45 p.m., the FedEx Orange Bowl will match the Maryland Terrapins against the Florida Gators from Pro Player Stadium in Miami.

The following night, the Rose Bowl presented by AT&T [T] will decide this year's college football champion. The unbeaten and top-ranked Miami (Fla.)
