Cingular's E-911 Aim Is TruePosition

Communications Today, March 11, 2003

TruePosition will provide location technology to bring Cingular Wireless' GSM networks in compliance with the U.S. enhanced 911 location mandate. The agreement also calls for Cingular to upgrade its existing TruePosition location system on its TDMA footprint to the company's TruePosition GSM location product. TruePosition ((King of Prussia, Pa.) said its U-TDOA location technology complies with the regulatory mandated standards. It has deployed more than over 4,000 units in cell sites in markets across the United States. Its multi-year agreement with Cingular (Atlanta) is designed to support the carrier's compliance with the E-911 mandate, which requires U.S. wireless carriers to provide public safety agencies with location information for 911 calls.

Cingular has been fined for missing a previous E-911 phase 2 compliance deadline on its TDMA footprint.
