The Dow Jones U.S. Telecommunications Index finished up on Monday, closing at 94.99, a 0.54 percent increase since Friday.

The Dow and Nasdaq both finished in the red on Monday, driven downward by continued investor worry about a possible U.S. war with Iraq.

In the telecom sector, BT Group plc [BTY] lost $1.64 to finish at $23.21 while Verizon Communications [VZ] dropped $1.31 to close at $32.75.

On the telecom equipment side, Siemens AG [SI] dropped $1.35 to close at $38.65 while Level 3 Communications [LVLT] gained 10 cents to finish at $4.71.

In the satellite sector, EchoStar Communications Corp. [DISH] gained 3 cents to finish at $28.78 while Harris Corp. dropped $3 to close at $27.19.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average decreased 171.85 points, or 2.22 percent, to 7,568.18. The Nasdaq decreased 26.92 points, or 2.06 percent, to finish at 1,278.37.
