USDA Program Funds Wireless Broadband Expansion
Communications Today, April 10, 2003
CLEC Prime Companies [OTC: PRMC] has deployed non-line-of-sight wireless gear from WaveRider Technologies [OTC: WAVC] in markets in California and Pennsylvania to extend the reach of its existing broadband offerings. The deployments are early examples of a project funded in part by the pilot broadband loan program administered by the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Rural Utilities Service.
Prime (Yuba City, Calif.) is using WaveRider's Last Mile Solution product line to expand service offerings in the communities of New Castle, Pa., and Lake Wildwood in California's Penn Valley, using the NLOS technology to serve business and residential subscribers it could not reach with its existing wireless broadband technology. The company plans to expand service to five additional communities in the next two months and anticipates a 400 percent increase in its residential subscriber base by June.
