Nortel Adds To China Mobile History

Nortel Networks [NT] will expand China Mobile's [CHL] GSM network in the Hebei Province, enabling the carrier to add 322,000 subscribers in the area of Shijiazhuang, the province's capital, and bringing its GSM capacity in the province to 6.8 million users.

Nortel has previously deployed its advanced GSM networks for China Mobile in eight provinces and directly administered cities: Anhui, Guizhou, Hebei, Hunan, Liaoning Shaanxi, Tianjin and Xinjiang.

The Hebei network expansion also will enable further wireless data services. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
