Simple web page design faults are stopping some organisations from reaping the full benefit of the Internet according to EMNET, a non-profit Internet company in the UK. EMNET, which registers organisation's web sites on its regional Internet search engine, has found that over 10% of organisations have simple web design faults that mean they are missing out on thousands of pounds worth of business as well as hundreds of enquiries. EMNET found that a lack of meta tags, which contain extra information about sites used by search engines during indexing, and the inclusion of robot text, which prevents searching by robot search engines such as Altavista and Lycos, cause many web sites to go unnoticed by search engines. EMNET has compiled a list of recommendations for maximising the effectiveness of web sites that can be found at http://www.eastmidlands.net.
