A new poll by the Gallup Organisation, conducted on behalf of Pace Micro Technology, has found that almost a third of UK consumers would consider grocery shopping from home via digital television if the option was available to them.
The poll, which included interviews with 1,045 randomly selected British adults, also revealed that saving time is the largest perceived benefit from home shopping (29% of respondents), followed by home deliveries (20%) and saving money (19%). Meanwhile, Pace Micro says that it is in the process of developing a new home shopping system to support the rapid expansion in grocery shopping via digital TV.
The hand-held device will feature a barcode scanner that will allow users to select the groceries straight from the fridge or cupboard, a touch sensitive LCD display for generating shopping lists and a digital RF interface for communicating with the digital set-top box.
