The UK music industry must make it easier and quicker to buy music legally online or consumers will turn to pirates and foreign competitors, runs the message in a new British government report.
The report reveals that up to 3m MP3 music files are downloaded every day across the Internet with global online sales predicted to reach USD4bn or 8% of the total music market by 2004. However, the report has found that UK users currently wanting to download music from the Internet may have to use several search engines and wait for hours.
Also highlighted is the fact that teenagers are the biggest group of music devotees but they are excluded from legitimately purchasing music online because they do not have credit cards.
