E-business and IT services provider EDS has launched a new wireless banking system to allow US financial institutions to provide customers with 'anywhere, anytime' access to electronic banking and bill payment capabilities through the PalmVII handheld computer and the Palm.Net service.

The new service will initially be rolled out to EDS' existing client base with Texas Credit Union, a 130,000-member financial institution, being one of the first to take advantage of it.

The technology used is based on an Internet architecture that allows for the expansion of web applications to wireless devices. The service will offer most of the banking and payment functions available through the Internet and will use secure and encrypted transactions to protect the data being transmitted.
