The online music downloading service MP3.com Inc has settled the copyright infringement suit brought by Sony Music Entertainment.
Under the terms of the out-of-court settlement MP3.com will pay Sony USD20m in damages for past violations and in the future will use the record label's music for its Internet service under a non-exclusive North American licence.
MP3.com will make a 'royalty' payment to Sony each time a user registers a Sony CD or downloads one of its songs, according to the BBC. The Internet service reportedly already has similar agreements with Time-Warner, EMI, and Bertelsmann (BMG).
