Online spending by home-based Internet users fell to USD495m during Christmas week, 20 December-26 December, according to a weekly buying study by Goldman Sachs and PC Data Online.

The figure marks the second week in a row that web spending fell, following a holiday season peak of USD1.25bn reached during the week of 6 December-12 December.

The study also shows that online buying during Christmas week decreased through all categories except 'food and groceries', with toys web sites, which had taken the top category ranking for the past three weeks, falling to third place behind computer software and music.
