Greenwich Information Technologies receives European patent for new technology

The European Patent Office has granted a patent to Acacia Research Corp's affiliate Greenwich Information Technologies for its video-on-demand and audio-on-demand technology.
The patent covers 14 European countries and will be valid until year 2012. Greenwich Information already holds three patents in the US as well as patents in Mexico, Japan and the Republic of China.
Video-on-demand allows users to access movies or other programs from a file server and view then with full VCR functionality, while audio-on-demand offers similar functionality with music or other audio files.
