The California-based Internet security technology developer Symantec Corp has launched Enterprise Security Manager (ESM) 5.5, the latest version of its network vulnerability management system.
ESM is designed to help IT administrators and security officers create, manage and install customised security policies across local and international networks while simultaneously scrutinising those systems for potential security breaches.
According to Symantec version 5.5 of ESM can perform over 2,000 different security and vulnerability checks on various operating system platforms, including Windows NT/2000/XP, Solaris, HP-UX, AIX, Linux and Unix. The new version also allows customers with a current maintenance agreement to use Symantec's LiveUpdate service to download security updates directly from Symantec's servers and automatically deploy them to multiple ESM systems from a single console.
Other enhancements include more detailed, customisable reporting and support for relational databases such as Oracle, SQL Server and Microsoft Access.
ESM 5.5 is available immediately. Pricing was not disclosed.
